The last few months have been so busy for us at Bleeding Art since we last posted a newsletter in the fall. Here’s a short list of some of the cool stuff that’s been happening at our shop:

1.We wrapped Season 10 of CBC TV’s Heartland (episodes still airing Sundays on CBC).

2.We started Season 2 of Syfy’s award-winning Wynonna Earp – we can’t reveal anything about the new season except that we guarantee you’ll see lots of exciting new mechanical special effects and prosthetics.

3.We welcomed cast member Dominique Provost-Chalkley from Wynonna Earp to our shop in early January and were thrilled when she tweeted about it afterwards.

4.We’ve been working on a fun project with Critical Mass, a Calgary-based digital communications agency with clients around the world – can’t wait to see this campaign hit the media as it put all our skills to the test.

5.We received one of our highest compliments ever when a former Calgary Police Forensic Crime Scenes Unit member said after seeing a test thumb print made with our blood:“I took a look at the fingerprint, and from over 11 years in the Crime Scenes Unit seeing a lot of blood and fingerprints, it looks amazing. The colour is perfect and it gives us the detail we are looking for.”

6.As a result of this great testimonial YouthLink at the Calgary Police Interpretive Centre contacted us for the blood they needed to make their upcoming adults only Valentine’s Day Fundraiser I BLOODY LOVE YOU as real as possible.

In fact all of our blood products, bruise powder, our new Colour Me Dirty wardrobe aging sticks are in use on productions like Wynonna, Dead Again in Tombstone, Knuckleball and Tin Star. And the fine folks at Fargo Season 3 are regular visitors to our shop.

Now it’s your turn. You too can create the exciting realism you love on stage and screen.

Have a look at our demo videos on YouTube – sure to get your creative juices flowing:

Bleeding Art - CREATING COOL at Beakerhead. You're Invited!

After watching Beakerhead,“a smash-up of science, art and engineering” grow over the past few years into one of Calgary’s coolest events, we’re thrilled to be partnering with them for a smash up event of our own, CREATING COOL on Friday, September 16, at 7pm. We’re frequently asked for tours of our shop so we thought why not open the doors to [...]

Is this as hot as it's going to get this summer?! (or 6 fun things you can do with rubber ice cubes)

How can it possibly be mid-August already? For those of us located in Alberta, it's been a bizarre summer with lots of torrential rain and evening thunderstorms. As we're in denial about fall, already hoping we can get away at Christmas, but still wondering what the heck happened to summer, we thought we'd have a [...]

“Out out damned spot!” – Lady MacBeth or You don’t need an ocean to wash your hands clean of BAI Blood

As you can imagine given the name of our company, we think about blood a lot. After a number of years making blood for a wide variety of applications – for wolves and bears, newborn screening simulations, opera, films, theatre, performance art, military training and more – we’d like to share a thing or two [...]

Custom made bloods make the grade in Wynonna Earp

There are lots of fake bloods on the market. How does one know what will work best? Instead of making one's own, buying from a company that actually uses the blood in film, TV and other entertainment applications knows intimately what works and what doesn't and can provide some guidance and expertise in deciding what [...]

Spring is here and the Pros-Aide has arrived!

It's a beautiful, warmer-than-balmy 30 degrees here today. It wasn't that many weeks ago that snow was still sprinkling the ground and we were waking up to frost-covered roof tops. It's scary how fast those sub-zero temperatures arrive, until - after the lovely respite - they hit us again far too soon. Some of our products [...]

Award-winning stop motion animation

If you stayed to the very end of the film Boxtrolls when the credits were running, you got a small glimpse behind the scenes, showing the work involved in making a stop motion animated film. I like to say that the process of stop motion animation can be either deeply meditative or unbelievably tedious. Either way, [...]
